The Loyola Marymount University Choruses will present an evening of classical music on Friday, April 29, at the 51st annual Spring Chorale in the Sacred Heart Chapel.
This year’s event, “A Festival of Masses,” will feature three contrasting Mass settings: the Missa Secunda of Renaissance composer Hans Leo Hassler; Norwegian-born Ola Gjeilo’s symphonic Sunrise Mass for strings and chorus; and John Rutter’s stirring Mass of the Children, a work that combines a mixed choir, treble choir, two soloists and a full orchestra.
LMU’s Concert Choir, Consort Singers and Women’s Chorus will perform under the direction of Dr. Mary C. Breden, director of choral activities. The soloists for the Rutter piece are senior voice major Marlaina Owens, soprano, and junior voice major Evan Bornemann, baritone.
The chorale starts at 8 p.m. Tickets ($20/$15) can be purchased at www.lmucfa.com or by calling 310-338-5466. Discounts are available for seniors, faculty members and students. Call the LMU Choral Office at 310-338-5154 for more information.
