Loyola Marymount University has earned the highest possible accreditation status from the WASC Senior College and University Commission, with the university’s regional accreditation reaffirmed for ten years.
The commission made its decision after visiting LMU last November and reviewing steps the university had taken toward improving its operations and educational outcomes for students.
“It is gratifying to receive external recognition for the quality of our educational experience and our many accomplishments over the last few years,” said President David W. Burcham.
The commission delivered specific praise to LMU for ensuring its degrees represent academic work of “quality and rigor,” for developing strong student assessment procedures, and for its commitment to student success and sound fiscal practices.
“The team applauded LMU for the widespread commitment to student success among faculty, staff and administrators and for the evidence-based approach used to understand the student experience,” wrote WASC President Mary Ellen Petrisko in her letter to President Burcham.
LMU’s accreditation will remain in effect until February 2025. WASC will review the next steps for the university’s next reaffirmation in 2020 and 2024.
