Rep. Maxine Waters and John Deasy, superintendent of the Los Angeles Unified School District, will be among the honored guests at the official opening of Playa Vista Elementary School on Monday, Oct. 29 at 1 p.m.
The LEED’s gold-certified, environmentally friendly campus features a unique partnership between LAUSD, the community and Loyola Marymount University to develop a model teaching-and-learning demonstration school that emphasizes science, technology, engineering and math education.
As part of this partnership, the children of LMU faculty and staff members are allowed to attend the 575-seat school and LMU’s School of Education provides professional development training for teachers, curriculum development assistance and grant writing.
Shane Martin, dean of Loyola Marymount’s School of Education, will be among the featured speakers at this event.
