Media Video & Photo Opportunity next week as The Laband Gallery Presents First West Coast Exhibition by Unique Japanese Artist
The William H. Hannon Library at Loyola Marymount University will host an exhibit featuring the work of conceptual artist Jean François Podevin, with an opening reception and keynote address by critical theorist Colin Gardner on Friday, Aug. 31.
The exhibit, titled “State of the Art and Mind,” features Podevin’s “Composite Memories,” which combines a spectrum of image-making techniques, from drawing and sketching to photography and digital imaging. Its unlimited juxtapositions of imagery highlight contradictions between the imaginary and the real. “State of the Art and Mind” will be on display in the Hannon Library through Oct. 12.
The exhibit is one piece of an ongoing symposium at LMU called Operation STEAMroller (for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics + Humanities) that seeks to motivate participants to consider art and education outside of specialized silos of knowledge. In addition to the exhibit, the festival includes panel discussions on interdisciplinary collaboration in industry and academia, and the state of education and learning across multiple fields of scholarship.
