Mahmoud Nourayi, chair of the Department of Accounting at Loyola Marymount University’s College of Business Administration, is a recipient of this year’s “Outstanding Accounting Educator Award” by the California Society of Certified Public Accountants and the California CPA Education Foundation.
The CalCPA organization has 40,000 members statewide in public practice, private industry, education and government. Each year the award is given to educators who have demonstrated excellence in teaching and mentoring, educational innovation, notable achievements in academic publishing and significant participation in professional and academic societies.
Nourayi, who has been at LMU since 1989, teaches classes in cost accounting, management accounting, and planning and managerial decisions. He is on the editorial board of the Journal of Managerial Issues and has served as the guest editor of the International Journal of Managerial Finance.
His professional experience includes tax, financial and management advisory services. He has also worked as an auditor in public accounting and government.
Nourayi received the award, which includes a $3,000 stipend, June 22 at CalCPA’s council meeting in Napa, Calif.
