Loyola Marymount University will confer an honorary doctorate in Humane Letters on His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios, spiritual leader of America’s 1.5 million Greek Orthodox, in recognition of his role in the growing rapprochement between the Catholic and Orthodox churches. Archbishop Demetrios is widely recognized as an international humanitarian leader who has reached out to Christian, Jewish and Muslim leaders.
As part of Loyola Marymount University’s commitment to fostering greater ecumenical dialogue and exchange between religious communities, the university launched the Huffington Ecumenical Institute. This unique program brings the discussion to the forefront of academia and to local levels, especially between the Roman Catholic and Orthodox communities.
Also attending is Huffington Institute founder Michael Huffington and several Orthodox bishops and Catholic representatives.
