Shane P. Martin, dean of Loyola Marymount University’s School of Education has been appointed to the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC).
The CTC is the licensing and disciplinary agency that ensures the integrity, quality of preparation, conduct and professional growth of the educators who serve California’s public schools. Martin will serve as liaison to the CTC for the Association of Independent California Colleges and Universities (AICCU), which represents 76 not-for-profit college and university education programs. As the AICCU representative Martin will be a nonvoting member of the commission who will fill two roles.
“Ex-officio members advise the commission on the needs and possibilities of higher educational institutions,” said Jonathan Brown, president of the AICCU. The CTC also needs members who can anticipate the concerns of future educators. “Shane is also marvelously well qualified to think about the training and evaluation that the best teachers in California will need to teach our students,” Brown added.
“I am very honored to be appointed as the representative of the private and independent sector of higher education on the commission. AICCU education programs provide about 40 percent of credentialed teachers and thus make a significant contribution to the common good of the state of California,” said Martin.
