Shane P. Martin, dean of Loyola Marymount University’s School of Education, was selected as the 2008 recipient of the Loyola High School Cahalan Award. Martin will receive his award September 27.
The award, named for Patrick J. Cahalan, S.J., chancellor of Loyola Marymount University, is presented annually to outstanding alumni of Loyola High School of Los Angeles for professional achievement, exemplary faith and integrity. The recipients are honored for continuing the legacy of contributions made by Cahalan during his 26-year tenure as president of Loyola High School.
Martin, dean of the School of Education since 2005, is active in the local community, serving on the Board of Regents for Loyola High School, and as a board member of Green Dot Public High Schools.
An LMU alumnus, Martin earned his Ph.D. in International and Intercultural Education at the University of Southern California. He earned a Master of Theology degree at the Jesuit School of Theology in Berkeley, with a specialization in Hispanic Ministry, and a Master of Divinity degree. Before joining LMU’s faculty, Martin’s classroom experience included six years in middle and secondary school settings and work in 17 Latin American countries.
