LMU alumna, Georgina Miranda, has set out to accomplish a remarkable mountaineering feat in the name of charity. Starting this month in Russia, Miranda will begin a climb of the Seven Summits, the highest mountain peaks on each of the seven continents. Her main inspiration for this challenge comes from the women of the Congo and Uganda.
Miranda has felt a calling to help the women of these war-torn countries, and she found her path through mountain climbing. Not only does Miranda hope to raise awareness of the situations that these women encounter, but she also ultimately hopes to raise $50 for every meter climbed, which will total $2,166,200. Miranda hopes that these funds will help provide the resources necessary for these women to empower themselves and overcome the hardships they face.
Her interest in climbing began while studying in the M.B.A. program at Loyola Marymount University, when she climbed many of the local Los Angeles mountains. From there, her dream grew into what it is today, raising money and awareness for the women of the Congo and Uganda through each climb she makes.
